Andrew Bain has had the opportunity to play with some of the best orchestras around the world. He started as Associate Principal Horn for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra from 1997-2000. From there he went on to play with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra from 2000-2001 and 2005-2009. He also held positions with the Münchner Symphoniker from 2001-2003 and the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House from 2003-2005. From 2009 to 2012, Andrew was Principal Horn of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and since 2003 has appeared as the Principal Horn of the Colorado Music Festival. Andrew is a regular soloist having performed concerti with the Melbourne Symphony and Queensland Symphony, Colorado Music Festival, Britten's Serenade with the Music in the Round Festival and Schumann’s Konzertstück at the Colorado Music Festival and with the Colburn Orchestra in Los Angeles.
In addition to performing, Andrew is extremely passionate about teaching. He is committed to the education of young musicians and proud to be the current Horn Instructor at the Colburn School Conservatory. Prior to Colburn, Andrew held several teaching positions including Lecturer in Horn at the Australian National Academy of Music, University of Melbourne, Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music and Sydney Conservatorium. He has also given master classes and lectures at the Elder Conservatorium, Queensland Conservatorium, Shanghai Conservatory and Colorado Music Festival. |

Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest horn players of our time, John Cerminaro is currently Principal Horn with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. In an illustrious career spanning five decades, he has also held principal horn positions with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Aspen Festival Orchestra. Mr. Cerminaro has been a principal horn guest with many orchestras across the United States, including the Dallas Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, and Houston Symphony. He recorded an acclaimed CD of the four Mozart Horn Concertos with conductor Gerard Schwarz and the Seattle Symphony as well and the John Williams' score for NBC's Nightly News. Respected for his teaching methods as well as his performance skills, John Cerminaro has been a member of the faculty at The Juilliard School, the Aspen Music Festival, the California Institute of the Arts and was a Landsdowne Lecturer at Victoria College. He is a recipient of the esteemed Naumberg Award, First Prize in the Concert Artist's Guild Competition and a Prague International Competition winner. |
Stefan Dohr studied in Essen and Cologne and started his professional career at the age of 19 as principal horn of the Frankfurt Opera. He occupied the same position with the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice and the Deutschen-Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Stefan Dohr has been the principal horn of the Berlin Philharmonic since 1993.
His engagements as a sought after chamber musician include performances with his Philharmonic colleagues in various ensembles as well as with partners such as Maurizio Pollini, Lars Vogt, Kolja Blacher and Ian Bostridge. He is also a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Octet as well as the Ensemble Wien-Berlin. Stefan Dohr appears regularly in international chamber music festivals and is invited to give master classes throughout the world. As well as the solo-repertoire of the classic and romantic period such as the horn concertos of Mozart, Haydn and Strauss, Stefan Dohr's interest also lies in works by contemporary composers. Lin Jiang started playing French horn at the age of 10 and is now one of Australia’s most sought after French horn soloists. He has performed as soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra, University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He has toured Japan as a soloist and undertook a tour of China in 2006 with representatives of the University of Melbourne. He released a CD of the Mozart horn concertos with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra of the Strauss and Gliere concertos with the Melbourne Symphony for the ABC Classics label. Major prizes he won include the Barry Tuckwell Brass Prize at the Melbourne International Festival of Brass, 2004, as well as sponsorship from Yamaha Australia as part of the Australian Chamber Brass Ensemble. Lin Jiang was accepted as the youngest competitor in the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, 2005 and was also a finalist in the prestigious MCA Freedman Fellowships Program. |
J.D. Shaw is Associate Professor of Horn at University of South Carolina and was formerly the French hornist with the internationally acclaimed Boston Brass where he was creative director, music arranger and co-owner of the ensemble. JD is an active solo artist and travels extensively throughout the United States as well as many countries in North America, Europe, and Asia. In addition, J.D. has also been a featured performer on National Public Radio's Performance Today and the CBS Morning Show.
Orchestral credits include associations with the Rochester Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Vienna Philharmonic, Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Missouri Symphony, and the Boston Pops. Prior to his position at University of South Carolina, Professor Shaw has held teaching posts at Boston College, University of New Mexico and University of Miami. As an active performer and prolific arranger, J.D. has recorded over 15 albums encompassing diverse musical styles from the Classical, Jazz, and Latin genres. Such record labels include Loft Recordings, Mark Records, and Summit Records. His Latest album entitled "Tales of Imagination" features Professor Shaw showcasing new music for solo horn and wind band. As a prolific arranger, Professor Shaw writes music for many orchestras, bands, and chamber ensembles. His arrangements are featured with several publishers and can be heard on many recording labels and performance stages across the world. Currently, he is the music arranger for the world champion Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps. |

Born in Moscow, Russia, October 17, 1956. At the age of six started to play alto horn in a brass orchestra at the Kuntsevo District Young Pioneers House in Moscow. He was a member of the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra and of the Moscow State Philharmonic Orchestra. He took courses in jazz improvisation at the Moscow Experimental Studio of Music Improvisation. His first serious experience in jazz was a Horn and acoustic bass Duo. He has since released 8 jazz albums all on french horn. He performs in Russia regularly with Denis Matsuev Band, with his own quartet, with different orchestras (symphony, chamber, brass and big bands), in a trio with vocalist Sergey Starostin and St.Petersburg bassist Vladimir Volkov, in a duo with pianist Vadim Neselovskyi and also in various settings with trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov. |
